the transcripts of emergence



I wrote an entire essay on the existence of gaps in our society and in architecture. I also argue that in order to deal with gaps architects need to emerge themselves within gaps. This project begins to interpret various typologies of gap which I have encountered during my time in this city. Gaps varying from perceptional, fiction, imagined or physical, and once collected become a simple record of my overall experience in Bangkok/

 BEFORE JOINING THE RANKS OF COMMUTERS, BUSES WERE INVISIBLE OR SINGLE UNITS MOVING PAST ME ON A ROAD. ONCE THE BUS BECOMES THE MODE OF TRANSPORT YOU RELY ON THEY COME IN SETS AND COMBINATIONS WHICH NEED TO BE APPLIED IN VARIOUS WAYS ACCORDING TO MY LOCATION AND DESTINATION.

BUS STOPS IN THAILAND ARE COMPLETE SEPERATE ENTITIES FROM THE STRUCTURE THEMSELVES. THEY ARE SHAPED BY MOVEMTN OF THE SUN, RAINFALL, URGENCY TO GET TO WORK AND OTHER MORE DIRECTIONAL ASPECT. THE STATIC MODEL OF THE BUS STOP NEEDS TO BE CHALLENGED IN URBAN DESIGN.

MOIST, DARK AND FLESHY, EVERY STEP CAUSES THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH TO SWEEL SLIGHTLY AS IF THE GROUND IS TRYING TO SUCK YOU IN. THIS MOMENTARY SEAL BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE EARTH LEADS MY MIND TO IMAGINE THE INFINITE UNDERLYING MASSES BELOW.

2. The secret sections
SEWERS, RIVERS, PILE FOUNDATIONS, 'AIRCON' AND BATHROOM WASHROOMS.

The section callout of various cultural signifiers relevant to the city of Bangkok have been a slow realisation. Using Autocad as a medium, I attemppt to create art from the draughting tool of architects, using CAD blocks and line weights as drawing signifiers.
